“Hear my prayer, O LORD, and give ear to my cry; Do not be silent at my tears; For I am a stranger with You, A sojourner like all my fathers. Turn Your gaze away from me, that I may smile again Before I depart and am no more.” Psalm 39:12,13
There are times when life gets the best of us and we are tired of fighting. We may feel like we have been crying out to God and receive no answer. David was battling an unknown sickness that he believed was a result of being under the discipline of God and had grown angry with the wicked in his presence. (Psalms 39:10,11) David said that during this time that he had refrained from even doing good but his distress grew even worse. (Psalm 39:1,2)
God is a Healer and a Revealer. Our lives are filtered through His sovereign hands and on His divine timetable. He is King of eternity past, present, and future. He lives forever and so do we by means of the shed blood of Jesus Christ. So, in our times of deep despair, we must remember that God is always there and he has already worked out what we are desperately trying to figure out. We gladly endure trials and tribulations because of the heavenly calling that we have in our lives. Like David, we can ask God to turn his face away from us so that we may smile again if we believe that our suffering is connected with our own self-inflicted pains and failures in walking with God. (Compare Psalm 39: 13 and Galatians 6:7). Even still, we can be assured that God is still there willing to soften the blows and pull us through our circumstances and pull us out of the deepest of pits.
Prayer: Heavenly Father we know that you are able to keep us from falling from the presence of your throne with exceeding joy. Help us tap into the well of joy within provided by your Holy Spirit so that others are drawn to you through us .
In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray, Amen!
