It is the New Year!
It is a time of making promises that we hope to fulfill… Lord willing. As we reflect on last years disappointments we commit ourselves to new promises hoping that this year is better than the last. What good are New Years’ resolutions without our God in view?
“Remember not the former things,
nor consider the things of old.
Behold, I am doing a new thing;
now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?
I will make a way in the wilderness
and rivers in the desert. (Isaiah 43:16-19)
God is calling to our hearts to put off every weight that will weigh us down this year. (Hebrews 12:1) If we are preoccupied with the “things of old” when a new thing “springs forth” from God in our lives we can miss it. The “things of old” need not concern a God who is always making things new.(Revelation 21:5) God wants to train our perceptive powers so that we can perceive the way that He is making out of our wilderness. Once the “old stuff” is out of the way we can see clearly the rivers that He has made in our deserts. A promise of new life, sanctification and lasting peace from God.
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
God reminds us that the old things are now of the past. He puts off our transgressions as far off as the East is from the West. (Psalms 103:12) It is His desire that we move forward on our journey with Him. To do that He has given us Jesus Christ who made a way for our sins to be released. (Romans 4:25) God has made us over in Christ so that His children are new creatures as we rest our hope in Christ.
For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the LORD that hath mercy on thee.
Why do Christians fail to see the powerful God that wants to be there ?

IMHO, failing to see God, even as a believing follower can be very difficult at times. In my particular trade, I often work outdoors. In cold weather like this, it is refreshing to see the Sun in the sky. On days when the Sun is not visible due to cloud cover, it takes a measure of faith to know it’s still there.
The Enemy may at times, just like cloud cover, try to block our view of God with various trials and tribulations. It takes continuous faith, encouraging edification, and a heart that is humble enough to learn a new way of seeing God.
If I’m at work and I look up and do not see the Sun due to cloud cover, I know that it is still there through eyes of faith. Granted seeing God takes a different type of faith but faith nonetheless. It takes a measure of humility I think to see God in a different way.

I wish all Christians would be on fire for God and not just saved from their sin. A great explanation, thanks.

“As we put our hope in the One whose promises never fail, our promises and resolutions this year will line up with His.”
